XL’s Featured Tribe Men Of The Week From Julian Thompson

One of my biggest obstacles with fashion is finding the right size for the look I want. It’s so hard to shop for a talk big dude like myself because every size won’t fit the way you need it too. Also, many stores don’t carry the sizes I need in order to fulfill a style. Another obstacle with fashion is being able to diversify my style. In other words, on most days, I usually are business casual because of my occupation. So, it’s hard for me on chill/off days to dress down.

2. Where are you from and what are biggest fashion trends in your city?

I am from Gaffney SC and currently live in Spartanburg SC, which is about one hour and fifteen minutes from Charlotte NC. The biggest fashion trend in our area seems to be the urban, business casual look. Turtle necks with blazers are making a huge statement in the area as well.

3. Tell us about your biggest fashion nightmare and if it came true do explain. (attach a picture if you can)

I don’t really have a fashion nightmare because I believe that you fashion is not based on your clothes but your character. If you have a great personality, then it doesn’t matter what you put on because your personality will make your stand out. However, I do get a little uptight when I see people who do not take pride in taking care of themselves when it comes to appearance.

4. What are some of your biggest style inspirations?

Honestly, my older cousin is a huge influence. He taught me a lot about how your appearance matters and how you should carry yourself as a true man in today’s society. He influenced me to really pay attention to the details of my style because first impressions set standards. Although I’m not perfect at it, I’m well on my way.

5.Where do you see yourself in five years and how do you see yourself accomplishing it?

I’m God’s preacher! So, I see myself pastoring one day. I also see myself building a brand new home for my wife and our future family. I’ll earn my Master of Divinity degree in two years, so that’s a cool thing for me. I  also see myself starting a business providing tutoring services for adults and kids. I see myself accomplishing it through prayer, preparation, and perseverance. I’ve been through a lot of things in my life so I know how to persevere through any situation. It’s all about your faith and focus.

 

I feel like the pride is missing. I feel a lot of brothers do not have pride in their size. This can be because of insecurities or self-conscious. Whatever the case may or may not be, you do not see a lot of brothers being proud of their size. I feel like fashion for men of size will be better if men of size is better overall. Once that pride is there, it will be like the finishing touches of their masterpiece.
