XL’s Featured Tribe Men Of The Week Daniel King
1) What are your biggest fashion obstacles?
Finding the exact fit for my size. Often times as a big man shopping (especially online)it can be a hit or miss. Sometimes bigger sizes lack the quality and choices afforded to smaller people.
2)Where are you from and what are the biggest fashion trends in your city?
I’m born and raised in New York City, one of the fashion capitals of the world. Depending on what part of the city you are in you can see any and everything. From the straight cut and slim fit suits of downtown to the fitted jeans and Timbs of Bedstuy.
3)Tell us your biggest fashion nightmare and if it came true do explain.
I would say my biggest fashion nightmare would be if I wore an article of clothing that was a bit too fitted. And I bust a seam in a very revealing place. Lol… No, it hasn’t happened.
4)What are some of your biggest style inspirations?
Being a musician and growing up here in New York my biggest style inspiration comes from the Harlem Renaissance. Back then (like now) the black man and woman were the pinnacle of high fashion. And when we dressed we dressed to turn heads. I’ve also always been a fan of the character, Wilson Fisk KINGPIN. Even as a comic character the way he looked and carried himself was very impressive. I love being in a suit. So you can expect to see me in ascots, bowties, and neckties. And all sorts of accessories.
5)Where do you see yourself in five years and how do you see yourself accomplishing it?
In five years I see myself as a music teacher and working on my own brand of dinner jackets and blazers for plus sized men. To accomplish the first goal I have to finish my music degree. And the second I’m already working with a tailor to solidify my designs.
6)What do you feel is missing in fashion for the men of size?
I wouldn’t say that men of size are void of ALL options. But a great number need guidance to fully understand what works for them and their body style.
