XL Celebrity Of The Week Corey Lewis
Q. How was the transistion from the CFL/NFL into civilian life?
A. Whenever you dedicate your whole life to something, as I did with football, it’s always hard to step away from it. At times it was even a little scary to think about what is next for me and how will I be able to adapt to life after football. Fortunately for me, I have a very good support team between both my family and friends, so they helped make it as easy as it could be for me.
Both my parents, my older brother (Steven Lewis), and my Uncle (John Utendah) who is my biggest mentor to this day were always in my ear about setting up for life after football dating back to high school, so because of that I had somewhat of an idea of what I wanted to do, so once I was done it was up to me to make it happen!
The things you learn as an athlete are so valuable towards everyday life, so I’m blessed to have played at such a high level and learn all the things that have helped set me up for success thus far.
Q. For those who aren’t familiar with your brand how would you explain it?
We actually just recently Changed our entire business model, and super excited to relaunch it this fall. It will be a fully functional online marketplace that offers a curated selection of men’s and women’s athleisure and supplementation (with functional foods coming later).
The 1and1 brand can be positioned as a Lifestyle and consumer centric athleisure brand that will also offer holistic health and wellness solutions.
Q. If you could describe your style in one sentence how would it read?
A. That’s a tough one. My day to Day style is all about performance and comfort. Another part of my business is having the opportunity to train high net worth individuals, Models, entertainers and celebrities of all sort, so since I’m typically back and forth between the office and training clients, I like to stay comfortable.
With Athleisure evolving the way it has, it has become easy for me to stay stylish while staying comfortable.
I also love my suits as well, and any chance I get to throw on a nice suit or tux I love it, and take full advantage of it.
If I had to tell you in one sentence it would be, “I love to look the part whether it is for work, play or an event…. I live in the moment.”
Q. Being a Big and Tall Man who are your favorite retailers and why?
A. For me, Good Counsel is a great place to go for anyone who is in the Big and Tall category. They have a great selection for us and have done a good job of getting brands who usually don’t have our sizes, to make sizes that fit us so they can sell it to us.
Outside of that, I don’t think I really have a “favorite!” Im kind of all over the place when picking stuff out. Through trial and error I try to see what works best from different brands for my size.
Also, My two best friends Supo and Tdrew are very well dressed individuals themselves, and pretty much have become my co stylist, so they usually know what works for me and send it over to me so I get it.
Q. One question I like to ask all my XL Tribesmen is “where do you see yourself in five years and how do you see yourself accomplishing it?
A. In five years I hope to be known as the person who through perseverance + Hardwork built an empire. To also be in a position to help others achieve their goals. For me giving back has always been important to me. I plan to start a foundation for youth to ensure they remain competitive. By providing the skills, knowledge and guidance from mentors invested in ensuring their mentee succeeds in life will fulfill my commitment to giving back for all that I have been and will be blessed with.
