XL’s Featured Tribe Men Of The Week Kenneth Ellison
1. What are your biggest fashion obstacles?
As a former college football player, Offensive Lineman at Langston University HBCU. I have to stay in some type of shape if not, I start looking like a can of busted rolls. At times my short legs and thick thighs stray me away from skinny jeans. Therefore I simply buy pants and alter them myself.
2. Where are you from and how you describe your style?
I’m from Kansas City, where R.I.P. tall tee’s and baggy jeans are the norm. I feel as if my exposure to other cities through traveling with friends and attending a HBCU has encouraged my desire to wear clothes outside of the local norm. I prefer to wear a blend of both athletic gear and business casual My variety of hats with a blazer preferably considering my profession as a teacher.
3. Tell us about your biggest fashion nightmare and if it came true do explain. (attach a picture if you can)
Man boobs, I hate the fact I have not taken my diet and weight training as serious as I should have but I have learned to live with it. I was in my mid 20’s when Rick Ross was running around the club with his shirt off and that gave me the confidence to do the same.
4.What are somethings you wanna see more of from your favorite brands?
I am a Yeezy fan, I would love to see his clothes is a 3XL or perhaps affordable.
5.Where do you see yourself in five years and how do you see yourself accomplishing it?
Currently I’m a P.E. teacher and I plan to be an administrator in five years. I have recently completed my Masters in Educational Leadership and that tool has provided me insight for what urban education should look like.
6.How long have you been on the journey of being a Big & Tall man? What’s the biggest misconception you hear about Big & Tall Guys?
I have always been a big guy, I was 6’1 and 310 my senior year in high school. My friends always say if I was skinny then I would be a designer and they always laugh at the fact I’m a fat guy who like tights clothes. The biggest misconception is the fat sloppy people don’t wanna be fly like. If I could I would wear slim dress pants and Cole Haan’s everyday and ripped jeans with a bow tie to church or the club.
7.If you could swap styles with one celebrity who would it be and why?
Jay Z’s casual distressed look is priceless, although I have cut up and bleached countless pairs of jeans for myself, wife and her friends. I still can’t figure out his effortless style. If I were to mention some other unofficial celebrities it would have to be my follow college classmates, Myrone Smith (RoneThaChosen1) and Micheal Anthony (TheBigFashionGuy).
