XL’s Featured Tribe Men Of The Week Joshua Cruz
1. What are your biggest fashion obstacles?
I would say the biggest fashion obstacles I have is finding clothing that is actually my size. Either it’s too oversized in one area or very small. I am a 1XL or a 2x on the norm but I have had to purchase larger because they cut the clothing so small.
2. Where are you from and how you describe your style?
I am originally from Puerto Rico, but have lived in Dallas, TX for almost all of it. My personal style is very eclectic, it depends on the mood that I’m in. If I’m feeling extra the glitter shoes or Louboutins will come out to play. On the usual I feel like I’m preppy with a mix of street and a dash of glitter.
3. Tell us about your biggest fashion nightmare and if it came true do explain. (attach a picture if you can)
I have multiple stories, but my favorite happened when I was in high school. I was going to a wedding and I split my pants at the butt seam. I wish I had a photo but unfortunately I don’t. I had to walk back to the hotel with my underwear showing. Fashion has tons of nightmares, you just have to laugh at yourself and buy bigger clothes.
4.What are somethings you wanna see more of from your favorite brands?
I would love to see brands to give us more unique clothing. I’ll preface this statement with I don’t own any Gucci, but they are doing some great things with fashion. I just want brands to not be afraid of breaking the mold. Let’s stop being boring.
5.Where do you see yourself in five years and how do you see yourself accomplishing it?
In five years I hope be modeling for prestige brands because I believe this is a revolution and I will apart of it. I plan to do it by connecting with different people and essentially making waves. I’m determined to make this into something that will be long-lasting.
6.What do you feel is missing in fashion for the men of size?
I feel like the biggest thing is getting correct sizing inclusion. It’s great that a brand makes plus size but when a 3x is an XL, we are still having this same problem in a different form. I can’t even imagine going online and being a 5x, clicking on there and it coming to your house being really a 3x. That’s depressing and no one should have to go through that at any size. That should be the thing that gets corrected.
7.If you could swap styles with one celebrity who would it be and why?
This might sound bad but no one. I feel like I have a unique sense of style and confidence. I wouldn’t change my style with any celebrity, but if we are talking bank accounts, I’d say Bill Gates.
