XL’s Featured Tribes Men Of The Week Gary Sullivan
What are your biggest fashion obstacles?
1. I would say my biggest fashion obstacles would be finding unique fashion forward clothes in my size. I feel like more creative and colorful clothing are made for mostly for the smaller build and much easier to find. I love the color. But a lot of time I feel subjected to dark colors like black, gray and navy.
Where are you from and what are biggest fashion trends in your city?
2. I live in Philadelphia, Pa but was born and raised in Dover, Delaware. The biggest fashion trends going on currently in Philly would be retro 1990’s streetwear, sportswear, Cuban collars, neutral colors including dusty pink.
Tell us about your biggest fashion nightmare and if it came true do explain. (attach a picture if you can)
3. My biggest fashion nightmare was going to a tailor and having a bunch of clothes altered (old and new) only to lose 25 lbs in a month and when I got my clothes from the tailor everything was too big.
4. My biggest fashion inspirations come from social media. I follow some of the best fashion forward and trendy guys. I get inspired and then I see what works for me and put my own spin on it.
5. In 5 years I hope to have launched my personal styling business and become a well-established entrepreneur. I really want to create and produce more fashionable unique clothing for bigger guys. I feel like it’s a huge task sometimes to find something that someone else already doesn’t have.
What do you feel is missing in fashion for the men of size?
6. As stated earlier I feel that more bold statement pieces are missing for the men of size. I would love to see more vibrant colors. I would also like to see more a more tailored slim look to be produced for the men of size. I feel like big clothes only make a man of size look bigger.
